Book Update (February 2015)

First off, I must apologize for completely failing at keeping you guys updated on how I was doing with my 2014 Book Challenge. I had set out to read 52 books last year and ended up accomplishing 43. I’m actually pretty happy with that number due to the fact I got hung up reading the first book in the Game of Thrones series due to it being 3x the size of a normal novel.

This year, with the help of Goodreads keeping track of my progress, I’ve set my goal to read 45 books. So far this year I’ve read 6 books and half way through my 7th. Just last night I finished reading Diane von Furstenberg’s memoir titled, “The Woman I Wanted to Be.”  I received this book for Christmas and was excited to read it because I was somewhat fascinated by not only her story, but how she conducted her life.

I ended up loving the book and could have highlighted quote after quote of inspirational message throughout the pages. What I truly admired about Diane’s memoir was her willingness to be candid whether it was going to be seen as socially acceptable or not. She lives her life passionately and doesn’t apologize for it. That I can respect.

I wanted to share with you some of my favorite quotes from her book;

“Living also means aging. The good thing about aging is that you have a past, a history. If you like the past and stand by it, then you know you have lived fully and learned from your life.”

“I loved having a man’s life in a  woman’s body. In a sense I had become the woman I wanted to be…”

“You cannot have a good relationship with anyone, unless you first have it with yourself.”

The other books I’ve read this year so far include —

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Sycamore Row by John Grisham
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (the hot new book out right now! Think “Gone Girl” esque)
Private : Down Under by James Patterson
Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty

If you have any great books you’d recommend, please please send them my way! I’m always looking for a good page turner.

Have a great weekend and hope you can sneak away for some alone time to catch up on that book you’ve been wanting to read!

Keep Living a Stylized Life.
