Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

11.27.13

If you’re like me you’ve had the task of cleaning your makeup brushes on your “to-do” list each and every month and never get around to actually doing it. Well, with this quick little tutorial, all you’ll need to do is set aside 10-15 minutes and vóila, clean makeup brushes!

Maybe you’re wondering why you need to clean your makeup brushes?!? Here’s a few reasons…

• they begin to harbor bacteria, which means you’re spreading that over your face and it can lead to  clogged pores and breakouts.
• when clean, they disperse and apply makeup more efficiently
• clean brushes give you a fresh start with no residual color remaining on the brush head

• they extend the life of your brushes over time

The makeup brush cleanser I use is from Bare Escentuals called, Well-Cared For Brush Conditioning Shampoo. You can also use baby shampoo as a gentle cleanser that’ll work just as well.

Step 1: Rinse your makeup brush under luke warm water facing down

Step 2: Place a dollop of cleanser in the palm of your hand & swirl makeup brush to work up a lather

Step 3: Rinse the head of the makeup brush thoroughly under the luke warm water again until the water runs clean
Step 4: Roll up a hand towel to create a small “ledge” for your brushes to set on. Rest brushes on the hand towel pointed slightly down to keep water from settling in the brush head.

Step 5: Let dry for 3-5 hours. It’s best to clean them AFTER you’ve applied your makeup for the day.

That’s it, you’re done!

P.S. We really should be doing this once a week to get dust, dirt and grim from reaching our faces!
