We are heading to beautiful Brazil (not really, but you’ll feel like it when you try these cocktails) during this cocktail hour to taste their signature Caipirinha – pronounced ‘kai-pur-een-ya’. This fresh cocktail is perfect on a warm day hanging out with friends in the backyard.
A little history on Caipirinha will further make you appreciate and enjoy this native cocktail. The signature ingredient in an authentic Caipirinha is Cachaça, which is a cousin of rum, made with 100% fresh cane juice and comes only from Brazil. A classic Caipirinha consists of fresh lime juice, natural sugar, Cachaça, and ice … but turn it up a notch by adding fresh fruit and/or herbs for a unique, delicious taste.
Our history lesson is brought to us by Leblon.
- 2 oz. Leblon Cachaca
- 3 Strawberries
- 3 Basil Leaves – torn
- 1/4 Lime
- 1 oz. Simple Syrup
If you don’t know what Simple Syrup is, check out the post on The Mojito.
- Muddle the lime, strawberries, basil and sugar in a shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice and add Leblon Cachaça
- Shake, Shake, Shake!
- Serve on the rocks
- Garnish with a strawberry
Cheers to a great weekend & let me know if you try it with any other fresh fruit or herb mixtures!
