A crisp, refreshing cocktail recipe needs to be in your arsenal of drinks ready to make at a moments notice. Wine & beer have their time and place, but when you want to feel like you’ve just retreated to a spa and can truly relax … your go-to drink needs to be a cucumber gimlet.
I was throughly spoiled on my first-ever experience with a cucumber gimlet while at the elusive Bourbon & Branch prohibition bar in San Francisco. (if you are ever visiting San Francisco, make this a must-have stop for cocktails!) Since then, I’ve tried cucumber gimlets made every which way, but I have come to conclude that they must be made with gin.
Here’s the kicker … not just any old gin will suffice! If you truly want to experience the best cucumber gimlet, then you have to use Hendrick’s Gin. You know …. the gorgeous black apothecary style bottle you see behind bars? Hendrick’s Gin is infused with cucumber and rose and when paired with a cucumber drink, it only enhances the natural flavors. Hence …. the best cucumber gimlet!
Ok, so now that I’ve got you wanting a cucumber gimlet … here is the recipe I use:
yields 1 Cocktail
3 oz Hendrick’s Gin
1 1/2 – 2 oz Simple Syrup (depending on how sweet you want it)
10 cucumber slices
Squeeze the lime juice into a cocktail shaker (use a citrus juicer to make this easier!)
Add the cucumber slices and muddle
Pour 3 ounces of Hendrick’s Gin into shaker, followed by 1 1/2 ounces of simple syrup
Fill the shaker with ice cubes
Now shake, shake, shake!
Using strainer, pour concoction into a martini glass or an old-fashioned glass
Garnish with cucumber slices and a lime wedge
Now sit back, relax and enjoy!
