As you’ve probably noticed throughout my home tours of the dining room, kitchen and home office that there is definitely a design theme centered around grey toned walls, wood accents and industrial touches. Since we have a pretty open floor plan, it works to have this similar flow from room to room. However, when it came to decorating the front porch, this is where I could capitalize on the chance to throw in some pops of color!
Since I take Dexie on walks 2-3 times a day, I’m often browsing how other homes have designed their front porches and taking note of like and dislikes along the way. I personally love an entrance into your home that is incredibly inviting and encourages you to take a seat, grab a glass of lemonade and just be present in the neighborhood. You can often find me out on the front porch reading one of my magazines with the dog at my feet and waving quick hello’s to other walkers.
When it came to designing this area, I centered it around the focal point of a beautiful wood bench. This was my way of incorporating wood into space and then could add the decorative elements surrounding it.
In order to sit and stay awhile, I need to make sure it was comfortable! I added an explosion of color by using a bright blue bench cushion and tuscan tile outdoor throw pillows. I’m not gonna lie, I saw these pillows in a magazine (wish I could remember which one!) and instantly went on to Wayfair.com to save them to my wishlist. They have such a gorgeous color combination and the pattern was that perfect boho meets aztec feel that I totally fell in love with.
If there was one essential decorative element that you cannot overlook it’s accent tables. We need a place to set our drink down, rest a magazine or have a snack at arms reach. These metal tray tables in a beautiful Mediterranean blue add the perfect compliment to each end of the bench (they come in black and a raspberry red also).
My love of succulents spread to this area of the house as well and I was able to plant an array of arrangements using this trio of jewel-tone planters. Adding greenery to any space is a sure-fire way to make it appear more inviting and relaxing. These are a great addition to the already blooming bougainvillea that I had in the corner of the front porch.
The mixture of colorful elements and a blend of textures created this really comfortable space that I absolutely love. It’s one of my favorite spots to relax after a day of work in the office and Dexie can often be found lounging here throughout the day.
Look forward to you joining me on the porch for a glass of wine soon!
(note — the outdoor rug was purchased last year from a garage sale)
