A sunny, early morning hike up the Botanical Gardens trail in Ventura with Dexie and Aisha made for the perfect way to get the day started.
Full disclosure — I love going on hikes, the steeper the better as I love the burn in the booty. The thing is, I also have a fear while hiking because I’m beyond terrified on snakes. Like, beyond. Then there is Dexie who doesn’t seem to love hiking too much either and simply for the fact that she’s very dramatic when she gets hot. So needless to say, when we do finally get outdoors and head out for a hike, I absolutely love it but I’m constantly scanning the ground for snakes and finding a shady spot for Dex to get some water. We are two peas in a pod.
With my friend, Aisha, in town to visit I wanted to take her out to a good hiking spot that would give her panoramic views of Ventura. The Botanical Gardens hike is short, sweet and uphill but the views are totally worth it. Straight out in front is all of Ventura and on the backside are the mountains and roads leading up to Ojai.
It was a pretty warm morning and thankfully I brought along Dexie’s portable water bottle with a spare bottle because she was one thirsty girl. I also love to throw on this active dog harness when going on adventures with her because it allows for better control and when in a pinch, there is a handle if you need to help her over a rock or something.
