This past weekend I hosted a girls holiday baking day that featured gluten free, dairy free, nut free recipes and lots of mimosas!
I’ve always had a love for baking, but I especially love baking during the holidays. Year after year I’ve brought out my stand mixer, rolling pin and cut outs and made a batch of my classic sugar cookies (that I even made work as gluten and dairy free!). Rather than baking alone, I invited some of my closest girlfriends over for a holiday baking day complete with classic Christmas songs, mimosas and oodles of yummy baked goods.
Aisha made a batch of Flourless Sunbutter Cookies from the Oh She Glows Everyday cookbook. The traditional recipe calls for peanut butter, but since we were baking nut free, sun butter it was! They turned out soooooo yummy.
I made the classic sugar cookies as well as a double batch of Homemade Yolos (think vegan Rolos) from The Oh She Glows cookbook. Guys, instead of caramel you blend dates and sun butter in a food processor and then dip the balls in dairy free dark chocolate and sprinkle with a touch of sea salt. They taste SO GOOD and it’s a must try!
Apparently I take my baking a bit too serious from this photo!
Stephanie made a batch of delicious gingerbread cookies that were of course, free of gluten, dairy and nuts. I know it sounds like a lot to factor in when having to bake for dietary restrictions, but there are so many ways to transition a recipe into working for what your needs are!
Though Jill claims to not be able to do much of anything in the kitchen, she killed it with her potato chip & pretzel dipped snacks covered with crushed peppermint. They were the ultimate blend of sweet & salty.
Note, the pretzels & white chocolate were not gluten free / dairy free. That was A-Ok because plenty of people will get to snack of those!
My neighbor, Arianna, was so sweet to come over and join us. We actually only met a few weeks prior and hit it off instantly. She made 2-ingredient cookies with shredded coconut and cranberries. I mean the cookie screams holiday!
After all the baking was done, we headed into the dining room and started decorating all the sugar cookies and gingerbread men. It was time to let our creative juices flow even though we were all pretty exhausted from the day!
We can’t forget our little helper who was there with us all day long picking up anything we dropped! My sweet Dexie girl lasted all of 5 seconds with her hat on, but it was long enough for me to at least snap a photo. Not that she looks happy or anything.
At the end of the day, I’m sure we all crashed on the couch and wanted nothing to do with our kitchens. From snacking on the dough (or at least that’s what Aisha & I did) to nibbling on the cookies fresh out of the oven, I had my heart set on the couch for the remainder of the day.
Keep Living a Stylized Life.
