In charge of planning the next girls trip to Charleston, South Carolina? Create a thoughtful, city inspired gift that you’ll send to the girls ahead of time!
Ok, so I must admit that I don’t have a girls trip planned to Charleston any time soon but a friend of mine does with all of her college girlfriends and I offered to help come up with a great gift idea. Immediately upon being asked if I had any ideas, I started reminiscing on a trip I took a few years ago to Hilton Head where we spent a day over in Charleston sight-seeing and experiencing the great food scene happening. The city is so rich in southern history and I was in awe of all the homes with expansive front porches and welcoming charm.
I started writing out my list of ideas that come to mind when I think of Charleston and the south in general and immediately thought of sweet tea and The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, which is set in Charleston. (I’m hard pressed to find a woman who hasn’t read the book or watched the movie!)
Creating a gift to announce the trip destination and to get everyone excited should be really quite simple and inexpensive, yet full of fun and creativity. Since this gift is likely going to be shipped in the mail, making a batch of sweet tea just isn’t possible, but that shouldn’t stop you!
Did you know Dolly Parton claims sweet tea is “the house wine of the south?”
What do southerners love to serve their sweet tea in? Mason jars of course! I mean, I haven’t been in the house of a Charleston housewife but I envision her cabinets to be stock full of pint size mason jars, wide mouth mason jars, jelly size mason jars and so forth. They really do have endless uses and I’m growing quite the collection myself.
Alright so you’re probably getting the jist of what I plan on doing with the mason jar for this cute gift idea. Simply add a scoop of sugar and place a few black tea bags (like Lipton’s tea) inside the mason jar. We’ll be adding the lemon in just a bit. Wrap twine around the lid and attach a recipe tag for each girlfriend going on the trip to Charleston.
Alright, now that our sweet tea is ready (please read that with a southern drawl), lets get to creating a cute box setup. I love using crinkle paper for boosting the appeal of a gift, so lay that down first inside the box. Place the novel down, followed by the sweet tea mason jar mix and a lemon. Add more crinkle paper to prevent any chance of the recipient receiving a gift with sugar all over! Since you’ve already left a cute recipe attached to the mason jar, you may want to leave an additional message including more details such as dates, locations, itineraries, etc. I’ll leave the planning to you!
That’s it! Nothing crazy or over the top but super thoughtful and will definitely get all the girls really excited for a trip to the one and only, historical Charleston.
P.S. Make sure you set aside time for a horse drawn buggy tour through the city and wave hello at the pig statues out front of Mr. Piggly Wiggly’s house!
