The sun finally seems to be making its long-awaited appearance for most of the nation! Unpack your tank tops, sundresses, flip flops and shorts. I was inspired to create this post when I received an email from Erin, a good friend living in Houston, asking how I would style a pair of floral pattern and metallic jacquard shorts.
Erin was probably expecting a simple email reply, but that just wouldn’t do justice with all the ideas I had floating around in my head! I didn’t know if she needed looks for date night, a work event or a Saturday afternoon out with the girls. Thus, I created her options that covered every realm and some tops that were versatile enough they could work for both pairs of shorts.
Merona Women’s Chambray at Target // Mango Tencel Denim Shirt // Madewell Dotted Chambray // Allsaints Kayo T-Shirt // Mango Satin Navy and Cobalt Blouses // The Limited Floral Shorts // Madewell Silk Offwhite Cargo Top // Coach Nude Strappy Heels // Zara Nude Strappy Heels // Zara Metallic Blouse // Zara Green Sheer Striped Blouse // Mango Printed Blouse// The Limited Metallic Jacquard Shorts // Allsaints Red Biker Tee // Zara Green Floral Blouse // Zara Floral Blouse with Asymmetrical Hem // Mango Cropped Jacquard Jacket // Coach Black Strappy Heel // Zara Black Strappy Heel // Madewell Silk Black Cargo Top
I’m particularly intrigued lately by mixing patterns and chose to add a striped shirt to coordinate with the floral pattern on the shorts. Your brain is probably trained to scream “No No No” but I promise you … try the look on and you’ll fall in love with how nicely they play off each other. You can even top off the look with a personal closet favorite, the chambray (that’s the “jean” looking top for all of you that are just learning what chambray means). This one item, well I have 3, is by far the single most item worn in my closet. It goes with EVERYTHING!
Another look I featured was a tone on tone outfit featuring a similar metallic shade and should definitely be topped off with killer strappy black heels like the ones featured on the bottom right by Zara. The look will appear effortlessly coordinated and ready for the evening ahead.
Since she clearly was feeling the flowery love with her first pair of shorts, I thought to incorporate that aesthetic with this beautiful printed top by Zara (right hand side). I suggest partially tucking in to the metallic shorts and pairing it with embellished sandals for the daytime or a great heel at night. (I love this top and think it might just end up in my closet too!)
I hope to be able to share a picture of a future outfit from Erin on what she decided to wear! In the meantime … are you a fan of printed or patterned shorts? Would you wear an of the styles above?
