Today I’m taking you into my bathroom and sharing a peek at my everyday “mostly natural” skincare products. I’ve stuck with this arsenal of products for over 2 years now and in combination with going dairy-free, my skin has never looked better.
It was about 3 years ago that I was fed up and frustrated with how terrible my skin looked. I had sporadic cystic acne, it looked dull, I was constantly having to use concealer to hid blemishes and wouldn’t even dream of going makeup-less for the day. That’s when I picked up Skin Cleanse by Adina Grigore. Quite honestly, this book changed my entire perspective about skincare, but most importantly it opened my eyes to what could be causing my cystic acne that I was so embarrassed about. Without going into a big tirade because you should read the book for yourself, but here in America we DO NOT regulate the skincare / beauty industry as to what chemicals can be put into our products and how they can get away with using slogans such as “all-natural” or “dermatologist recommended” marketing tactics.
Once you start to pay attention to the backside of your skincare products, you’ll be shocked and wouldn’t dare consider putting a majority of them on your face or body. I read Skin Cleanse in less than one week and by that weekend I had thrown out 90% of my skincare products. So here we are years later and I’ve stuck to this skincare routine pretty consistently and many days I don’t wear any makeup and I’m blemish free. It’s the best feeling ever & if this Wisconsin girl can give up dairy and switch to using products that we can all pronounce, then I swear anyone can do it.
Let’s get started with my everyday skincare products. I primarily use S.W. Basics, but have also incorporated in a few basics that I started purchasing off-brand to save a few bucks.
These are some of the additional everyday skincare products I use >>>
Thayer’s Witch Hazel in Rose Petal
Pure Jojoba Oil (either from Trader Joe’s or Amazon)
Dr. Bonner’s Organic Peppermint Lip Balm
Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen
Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum SPF30
Supergoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil SPF50
I will mention that I started ordering many of my all-natural skincare products from Thrive Market. It’s basically an online Costco but for organic, all-natural food, household and wellness products.
My typical routine in the morning is to swipe my face with witch hazel and then apply the Supergoop! Everyday Serum. While most of my skincare products are 100% natural, my sunscreen isn’t but Supergoop! uses much better ingredients than typical sunscreen products do. After I let the serum settle in, I will apply a small amount of the S.W. Basics Oil Serum and that’s it. In the winter when my skin is a bit more dry, I will switch out the oil serum with the S.W. Basics Cream.
At night, my skincare routine is to drizzle the pure jojoba oil onto a large cotton pad and remove all my makeup. This honestly works great, plus it’s hydrating my skin and not stripping it of my natural oils. Then I either use a cotton ball soaked with the S.W. Basics Cleanser or go straight to swiping my face again with witch hazel (just depends on how dirty my face is that day). I do a few spritz of Rosewater spray and most often I’m done. Again, if my skin is feeling dry I will either apply some oil serum or cream to my face if needed.
Side note – the Cream is an amazing all-around product. I use it on burns, scabs, scars or any rough patches and it works amazing!
A few products that I use religiously are the Dr. Bonner’s lip balm and always applying the Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen to my arms, shoulders and neck.
As you can see, my routine is REALLY basic and doesn’t actually involve that my steps or products. Besides the sunscreen, my skincare products are 100% all-natural and usually contain less than 3-4 ingredients. Trust me, they work effectively and your skin loves to soak them in.
My dear friend, Aisha, gifted me the Arbonne Rescue & Renew detox oil and mask for my birthday and I really like them. I apply the oil right after getting out of the shower for a hydrating body treatment and apply the mask on my face once a week for a deep clean.
There you have it, a peek inside my medicine cabinet to see what my everyday “mostly natural” skincare products are and how I use them day in / day out. These are products are truly swear by and I have noticed the most incredible change in my skins appearance with the elimination of dairy from my diet as well. To me, it was worth giving up cheese and being educated about the products that are going on my skin. Let me know your thoughts on all of this & if you’re willing to give it a try or already have started to incorporate a more natural skincare routine.
