Painting With A Twist

05.02.16

Let your creative side blend with a touch of tipsy fun and you’ve got yourself an evening of Painting with a Twist! It’s not only a great opportunity to get out of the house with friends or family, but learning to paint a pretty canvas with a glass of wine in your hand also promotes a sense of relaxation. Take a look at all the fun my Mom and I had on a recent night out painting Amethyst Petals at the Camarillo location.

When I was graciously given the opportunity to attend a painting class at Painting with a Twist in Camarillo, I immediately looked at dates that would work when my Mom was out visiting me on her spring break. I get a lot of my creative side from my Mom so I was eager to see how much fun she’d have learning to paint a beautiful bouquet of amethyst flowers and sip on a little cocktail in the meantime.

Needless to say, we ended up having a blast and my Mom has quite the ability to focus on the painting task at hand and zone out all distractions. I was laughing at her throughout the night because she stopped talking and just painted. It was nice to see her enjoying the process and really take the opportunity to relax.

If you haven’t been to one of these types of adult painting classes, I really suggest you give it a try! You’re in a room full of women (and men) who are letting loose with wine and beer and letting their creative freak fly. The instructors are incredibly patient with all levels of experience and when it’s time to just paint, they pump some fun tunes and you just get to paint without worrying that you’re being judged on your skills.

This was our “model” painting that we were all striving for. It’s amazing how they teach you to start the painting and where it’ll end up looking something like this. Let’s just say, once you figure out how to make your flower shape, you just stick to your rhythm and go with it!

Since my Mom was flying back to Wisconsin and taking her beautiful painting with her would be quite difficult, I decided to honor the fun memory we had together by hanging them side by side in my laundry room. It’s a nice reminder of the laughs we enjoyed that night and that we both have a bit of Pablo Picasso in us after all!

  1. Hi Kristin.
Jessica posted your blog on Painting With a Twist, on Facebook, so I happen to see this. I am so glad that you and your Mom enjoyed painting it! Lovely to see them on your wall together too. It was a fun painting.

    Your art instructor that night,
    Chris Anne 🙂
