Paleo Green Smoothie + Healthy Living Chit-Chat

05.10.18

A delicious paleo green smoothie recipe that is naturally gluten free and dairy free + healthy living chatter about fitness and skincare. | Modish and MainI recently stumbled upon (stumbled because I may have been slightly hungover) Whole Food’s paleo green smoothie and it was the best green smoothie I have EVER tasted. No joke, it was delicious and yet very green! Since it rings in at a whopping $8 a smoothie, I knew it was yet another challenge for me to recreate this recipe at home in my own kitchen.

So not only am I sharing my spin on the paleo green smoothie, but I’m going to share some healthy living chit-chat that has been going round and round in my brain for the past 3-4 weeks. I’m always looking to learn more about eco-conscious brands and innovative platforms to really better my wellness overall. It can’t all be done overnight, but it’s the small steps that count!

If you are still reluctant to hop on the green smoothie/juice train, I swear this is the recipe that will convert you!  Speaking for myself, I typically shy away from anything that is vibrant green, but I don’t mind when it’s snuck in there. Hey, it’s a trick on the mind and any way to get the greens in, I go for it. I think it’s the balance of the coconut milk with creamy almond butter and the tropical flavor of the pineapple that help balance out the greens powder along with the kale and spinach. It’s not overly sweet, yet it doesn’t taste like I’m eating a blended up salad (no thank you).

I’ve talked about my love for Touchstone Essentials nutritional products back when I did my March Healthy Living Challenge & the Super Green Juice powder truly gets added to every smoothie these days. If you don’t have the kale or spinach on hand, simply add an extra scoop of the greens powder for the nutritional boost! I’ll admit, there may be initial sticker shock but once you read ALL the ingredients and then add up what that would be in a grocery bill …. it’s worth EVERY penny.

Alright, so let’s shift gears here and talk about the healthy living topics that have been on my mind lately. I’ll start first with skincare. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I switched to a 100% all-natural skincare regime over 2 years ago. It completely, along with going dairy free, changed the appearance of my skin and gone is my cystic acne. Although I’m acne-free, I feel like my skin appears dull so I’ve been doing a lot of reading on some new brands that have 100% all-natural skin oils.

So far, I’ve been drawn to Olie Biologique’s RoseGlow Radiance Face Oil, OSEA Malibu Brightening Serum and Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum (quite pricey). Now that I’m been looking into them, sponsored posts keep popping up on my Instagram with new brands and I’m completely overwhelmed. My goal is to find a 1-2 face oils that will help bring some luminance to my skin, brighten it up and give me a natural glow. So …. if you have ANY recommendations (remember they have to ONLY contain all-natural ingredients) please send them my way.

Next healthy living topic is fitness. Guys, I’m not going to sugar coat it, I have been in a rut. For the life of me, I cannot seem to get into a fitness regime that I truly enjoy or am willing to make time for. That’s the thing, business has picked up so much this year that I haven’t been scheduling fitness into my day. It keeps being the item on the to-do list that isn’t mandatory so I keep letting it get pushed to the next day, and the next day after that. Low and behold a month goes by and I’ve worked out maybe 4-5 times total.

So what’s been on my mind lately? A Peloton cycling bike. From seeing a few bloggers that I follow use one and I know a few others who have the bike as well, it’s got me VERY intrigued. I’ve only heard really great things about it, but the kicker is … I’ve never even done a cycling class! I feel like if I had the tool in my home and know that even just a 30-minute session could burn some serious calories, what excuse do I have not to use it? It’s been about 3 weeks now where I think about the Peloton daily, but it’s an expensive investment so I really need to make sure this is something I plan on sticking with before I take the plunge.

If you have the bike or know someone who does, PLEASE comment below with why you bought it, how long you’ve had it and do you love love love it?

So there you have it. I’ve shared with you my paleo green smoothie recipe and some healthy living chit-chat. If you have any feedback on any or all of it, please comment below as I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. OMG. I LOVE the Peloton, it is awesome!! I got mine in December and have never looked back. My sister will probably tell you I am borderline obsessed with the thing. I’ve taken spinning and cycling classes in the past and have always liked them, but hated the big gym thing. I mainly turned to running for cardio, but in the last year or so that has been killing my joints and just causing pain. The joy of turning 40 I guess. When my husband brought up the idea of getting a Peloton, I initially said no, mainly because I felt like it was too expensive. Now that I have it, I will say it’s the best investment I’ve ever made in a piece of exercise equipment. I use it 6 days a week and haven’t used my treadmill or run outside since. My body feels great, I no longer have pain, and my resting heart rate is in the 40s. I feel more in shape now than I ever did with running. They have financing available if you choose to go that route. And the monthly subscription is $39.

As far as the bike goes, it’s smooth, quiet, and comfortable. There are over 9,000 classes on demand and they add new classes daily. You can take a live class and you might get a shout out if that’s your thing. I find that I mostly take on demand classes just because that works best with my schedule, but live classes are pretty cool too. While I have my favorite instructors, they are all great. Their playlists are awesome and so are the workouts. I am drenched in sweat when I’m done. You can choose classes by time, music, type of ride, etc. They also have Beyond The Ride classes that will work core, arms, legs, and stretching. I think there are also yoga classes, although I haven’t tried them.

I would say you might want to try a cycling class though before you invest this kind of money! You will want to make sure you actually like it. Peloton has showrooms that you can visit and try out a class if you are interested. I think they have one in Century City and also Santa Monica. There is also an online facebook group called the Official Peloton Member Page that has a lot of posts about the bike which might give you a better sense of how people feel about it and the experience in general. Having said that, I would recommend this bike to anyone! Peloton should totally hire me, ha! Good luck in deciding!

    1. You’re the best Amber, THANK YOU so much for sharing your experience with the Peloton bike. I think the first step is just getting into my gym and trying a cycling class!
