In just 7 days I’ll be turning the ripe old age of 33. I remember being in high school and meeting someone that was in their 30’s and thinking how old they were. Now that memory is a far distant past and just makes me laugh. I love my 30’s and feel anything but old. I’m more connected with myself than ever before and approach life with a bigger sense of purpose.
Beyond the fact that my favorite number is 3 and I get to have 365 days of living with two 3’s … I wanted to share with you for the next 7 days things that I’ve reflected on now that I’m approaching my mid-30’s and how I approach living life to the fullest.
Day 7 : Pursue a Passion with Reckless Abandonment
5 years ago I had this great job working for someone I respected, had flexibility and creative freedom, but I wasn’t being fulfilled personally. All of my creativity was going to benefit someone else and that’s when I decided to do something for me. When I made the decision to create this lifestyle blog, I went for it with reckless abandonment. I asked to borrow my parent’s Olympus DSLR camera, watched YouTube videos, read articles and became a student of the craft. I just wanted to take semi-decent photos for the blog. Let me tell you, there were some pretty bad photos at the beginning but that didn’t stop me.
On top of that, I didn’t know anything about blogging, how to edit photos in Photoshop, create moodboards, etc. Guess what? That didn’t stop me either. I poured myself into more articles, stayed up till 3:00am most nights and even helped design my first web layout. I didn’t want to be just another blog that came into the space, I wanted to look legit and have a space that inspired people to read my content.
Fast forward 4.5 years later and I’m still creating content for Modish & Main, get to work with amazing brands, generate original recipes and DIY projects for 3 wineries AND have even started my own photography & digital marketing business. I had a passion and I pursued it with reckless abandonment. If there is any advice I’d give to my younger self is to be aware of those passions and think outside the box as to how you can make a living doing something you whole-heartedly love. That’s when you’re really living life to the fullest.
Keep Living a Stylized Life.
